A NEW YEAR, A NEW TEAM
To volunteer for New Mills Festival, the main skill needed is a willingness to get stuck in. Add in the kind of enthusiasm that doesn’t falter if things get a bit tricky, and that’s what our average volunteer looks like. January has been a month of finding out what people want, and who can help make it so. Local people who have a history of having made things happen for New Mills Festival came together this month in the Royal Oak to talk about 2023.
NEW MILLS VOLUNTEERS
The aim was to tap into the knowledge and enthusiasm of the existing volunteers, whether they’d helping for years or months, organised something big or supported something small. It was time for a conversation and to get excited about the future.
SKILLS IN DEMAND:
People who came along had been a part of many many things. Whether it was climbing ladders (a much in demand skill in New Mills), organising people to do things, devising entire projects and making them happen, or helping to publicise events. One thing everyone had in common was the desire to do it all again, to create a 2024 New Mills Festival.
It’s amazing how much expertise in so many areas there is in our smallish town. There were people whose day jobs were Project Management, Town Planning, Health and Safety, HR. It turns out day jobs and voluntary roles can be as far apart as New Mills Central and New Mills Newtown.
CAN YOU VOLUNTEER?
The main skill needed is a willingness to get stuck in with the kind of enthusiasm that doesn’t falter if things get a bit tricky.
We’re really going to need a whole town effort if we’re going to Relight the Lanterns, and revamp the other elements of our Community Festival. If you can list as one of your skills, the ability to get stuff done, please do get in touch. If you don’t know what task it is you’d like to do, no matter, get in touch anyway, we’ll soon find you something! Interested in being a part of it, get in touch, Email Kate
