We are super excited to have been asked by New Mills Festival to hold our FancyAWalkMate adventures alongside them. New Mills Festival is a community festival in New Mills, High Peak, a small mill town nestling at the foot of the Kinder Plateau. The Festival is fuelled by community spirit, supported by volunteers, businesses, artists, performers and creative thinkers. The Festival started in the mid 1990’s by the head teacher at the local secondary school who wanted to bring together the many groups and organisations in the town as a celebration of community, culture and arts. The festival runs from the 13th-29th September please go and check out what events are planned by visiting the website www.newmillsfestival.co.uk or their Instagram account @newmillsfestival.
Our adventure will start in the usual way, opening up our time together in nature with open arms and love (yes that’s right we said love fellas, try not to be put off by this). We will echo the importance that this space if free of judgement, places no pressure on you nor has any expectations. It will be a fun and vibrant start, helping you to feel relaxed and comforted knowing that you are in the right place. An opportunity created where you can walk alongside men who will listen, support, where you can be your true self without the fear of anyone laughing or taking the p**s out of you. A chance to make real true honest mates.
Our adventure will take us through a local nature reserve where we will focus on the beauty of nature and focus on absorbing all the wonderful natural energy that nature provides. Then we will make our way towards the Millenium Walkway. The walkway provides a route through the previously impassable gritstone gorge at Torrs, New Mills which is an area of exceptional natural beauty and unique industrial archaeological heritage. An elevated 160m long cantilevered walkway that provides the important ‘missing link’ for the Mid Shires Way. Its incredible to see and even more incredible to walk across. Once we cross the walkway we will be immersed into the magic of New Mills Torrs. The Torrs, a beautiful canyon created by the melting of ice at the end of the last Ice Age, bisects the town of New Mills. At its lowest point, the gorge is 30 m deep. Here, the Sett and the Goyt rivers converge. The route focuses on the Torrs’ industrial history. However, keep an eye out for wildlife and take in the natural woodland’s tranquil environment as a contrast to the busy town area directly above. From the Torrs we make our way through the town of New Mills before heading past the golf club and up towards Mellor Cross. We will then descend towards Peak Forest Canal where we will follow the canal back to the nature reserve. This will then be an opportunity to sit in nature, relax, enjoy a warm cup of FullPowerCacao whilst we open the space for us mates to be guided through a short meditation focusing on the present moment. We understand that the word “meditation” can potentially be off putting to some, and we get it. We used to be put off by it too, but we found that once we let go of our barriers (possibly ego) and understood that actually 10 minutes of sitting quietly, closed eyes and focusing on the present moment, around men that are not judging us, that we felt at peace, and it helped us to move through life more fluidly. So why not give yourself that time men and give it ago.
This is an opportunity to spend some time out in nature with a group of good honest mates. Where there is no judgement, no pressure or expectations and where our egos are not required. A space where you can be yourself and celebrate all that you are. For you to open up should you want to in a space that is non-judgemental, we promote the courage to talk but remembering that there is no expectation to do so, just know that by talking it can often help. To dig deep within and to get anything off your chest to either celebrate your wins or sound out your stresses. No matter how big or small. We leave the p**s taking and egos at home fellas and encourage respect for your fellow man. This is your space and time to embrace the outdoors, enjoy the views, enjoy the challenge and to honour yourself and the man next to you along the way.
Much Love
Team – FAWM xx
