New Mills Duck Race 2024

Sunday, May 19, 2024 - 12:00 PM to 3:00 PM

The wonderful, the eccentric, the crazy New Mills Duck Race is back for 2024!

How to explain this and do it justice?

It’s a Duck Race! You buy a ticket which allocates you a plastic duck. The Ducks are all released at the start line at the same time and the first one to the designated finish point wins.

Oh, and there’s the Corporate Duck Race. Local businesses sponsor their very own Duck, from just £25 a pop, and then watch on as their Duck races for the glory (get in touch if your business would like to sponsor a Duck).

And then…yes, there’s more…there’s the School Duck Race. Each school in New Mills is paired up with a local artist who turns a plastic yellow Duck into a masterpiece and they slug it out (the Ducks not the artists) in the River Goyt.

Things you need to know:

  • BRING CASH (there isn’t always good reception for card payments down at the site of the race)
  • The ticket money is shared between Parent Teacher Associations (PTAs) from local primary schools and nurseries and the New Mills Festival
  • There are three races in the event – one for businesses, one for schools and a public competition
  • There are prizes! And trophies!
  • The Bubbleologists will be there, and there will be a PTA cake stall, doing cakes as only a PTA can, as well as street food
  • NO PARKING in the Co-op please
  • It’s huge fun, 1500 ducks participated in the last event, and it’s not just for the kids!
  • Bring CASH
  • Did we mention that you should bring cash?
